The Herencia Latina Center hosts a variety of events throughout the year, with an emphasis on Hispanic Heritage Month. We kick off the month with Fiesta at Sunset, a celebration that highlights and shares the richness of our cultures. With live performances, piñatas, games, food, and dancing, we honor the contributions and cultures of Latino and Hispanic communities.
Día de los Niños, hosted in April, is a traditional day of celebration dedicated to the children in our neighborhood. We use this as an opportunity for our community partners to highlight their summer events and activities. We also have food, games, engaging activities, music, prizes, and live performances.
Sana Sana is a series focusing on self-care and mental health. Sana Sana stems from a popular children's rhyme, "heal, heal little frog's tail," commonly used as a healing chant when a child hurts themselves. This series highlights different ways one can practice self-care. Our activities include painting classes, Zumba or dance classes, hiking trips, and movie nights.
We also celebrate the Day of the Dead November 1 to 2. On these days, we invite the community to visit our altar, which is set up starting October 27. Visitors share photos and leave offerings to honor loved ones who have passed away.
